Privacy policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026. This policy applies to navaccess for Mac and navaccess for iPhone.
navaccess is an accessible app for blind and visually impaired people. It requires no account, contains no ads and does not track your activity.
Data collected
navaccess collects no personal data. Nothing is sent to the app's author, unless you write to them or request a licence (see below).
What stays on your device
- Your list of websites, your contacts, favourite stations, followed podcasts, settings and calculations are stored only on your Mac or iPhone. On iPhone, calculations are visible in the Files app, in the navaccess folder.
- On Mac, if you protect navaccess with a start-up password, your websites and contacts are encrypted: without your password or recovery key, they cannot be read.
- Deleting the app and its files deletes all of this data.
Google Contacts (navaccess for Mac)
The Contacts tool in navaccess for Mac lets you, if you choose, import the contacts from your Google Account. This feature is coming in a future version of navaccess for Mac.
- Sign-in: you sign in on Google's own page, in your web browser. Your Google password is never seen or stored by navaccess.
- Data accessed: with your permission, navaccess reads your Google contacts in read-only mode (the "contacts.readonly" scope): for each contact, the family name, given name, phone numbers, email addresses and company name. navaccess cannot change or delete your Google contacts.
- Use: this data is used only to add these contacts to the navaccess Contacts list on your Mac. It is not used for any other purpose, including advertising or analytics.
- Storage: imported contacts are stored only on your Mac (encrypted if you use a start-up password). They are never sent to the author of navaccess or to anyone else, and never sold. You can delete them at any time in navaccess.
- Access released: as soon as the import is finished, navaccess releases its access to Google. No access token is kept: every import asks for a new permission. You can also review and remove access at any time from the Third-party apps page of your Google Account.
navaccess's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Camera (iPhone)
- The text reader, colours and code reader analyse images only on your iPhone: they are never saved or sent.
- Guided photo saves a picture to your Photos app only when you take it. It is never sent to the author of navaccess.
Microphone and speech recognition
The microphone is used only to add a website by voice, when you ask for it. Speech recognition is performed by your device's operating system, on the device when possible, otherwise by Apple's dictation service, under Apple's privacy rules. navaccess does not record your voice.
Internet services used
- Suggested websites, licence and updates (Mac): downloaded from GitHub (github.com). The licence check downloads a list of unreadable fingerprints: it sends no information about you.
- Licence request (Mac): if you request a licence, navaccess prepares an email that you send yourself. It contains the name you enter and your Mac's code; as with any email, the author also receives your sender address. This information is used only to issue and send you your licence.
- Radio: on Mac, the station list comes from Radio Browser (radio-browser.info) and stations are played directly from their own servers. On iPhone, stations are provided by Apple Music.
- Podcasts: search uses Apple's podcast directory, and episodes are played directly from each podcast's servers.
- TV guide (Mac): listings come from xmltvfr.fr.
- Video downloader (Mac): only the link you enter is used to fetch the video from the site concerned.
- Code reader (iPhone): when you scan a product barcode, only the barcode number is sent to the open databases Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts, to get the product name.
As with any internet connection, these services can see your connection's IP address. navaccess sends them nothing else.
